Commercial RO systems operate at very fast flow rates and so small sand particles should be removed prior to the water being injected in Reverse osmosis membranes. To remove small sand particles, we install a media filter and activated carbon filters to purify water before passing it to the RO membrane, and once the water comes out of the RO membrane it's pure, clean, and of correct TDS level, which is good for drinking and other usages.
